So the Eurovision.tv website got a face-lift a few years back. The issue with this is the website is now littered with broken links that simply no longer function. One such area that this is particularly annoying in is in regards to the split jury/televote results particularly between 2009 and 2015. As these results were never presented separately, they were only ever given on data sheets downloadable off the old website and well, they no longer work. This makes it a lot harder to hunt out information on them. Let’s fix that!
Fan websites have been a thing for many years (way before this site) and many presented this data. This means that if you want to know who the juries put third in 2009 it is out there, just consult Eurovision By Jaz! Yet we once again strike a problem. If the information is out there but on 101 different sites it can be hard to access, hard to verify (without finding multiple sources) and may not contain full data.
This is where you lot come in!
What are we hunting for?
By googling as many of these old websites as we can we can compilate all the split results on just one site. At least that’s what I’m aiming to do but it is no mean feat. Some sites have incomplete data e.g. rankings and not points, others lack the semi-finals and many do not include citations. So basically in an ideal world we would have to find as many of these references as possible to back one another up and give full information for each year.
What about back-up jury results?
Back-up juries were used during the 100% televoting era of Eurovision in case a country could not provide a valid televote. In some years, I believe these were leaked and/or revealed but again they lie scattered around the internet if even that. Another issue here is that they pre-date most of the major fan sites who have kept records on these things e.g. Wiwibloggs and as a result were never recorded.
What am I doing?
Basically my aim is to compile as much of this data in one place so whoever wants to analyse or enjoy it can (and knows exactly where it came from). Some of these split results may well be lost to time, and 2013 will always remain incomplete for numerous reasons but the more comprehensive a picture we have the better!
What can you do?
First of all to Eurovision bloggers/data enthusiasts etc: If you have a copy of data either on an excel sheet you saved back in the day or on your site, please link/send me it.
Secondly, if you do not personally have data to hand, go on a web hunt! It’s a lot of work for one person to scroll through page upon page online but if multiple people did it the quicker we would find the data.
Either a) comment in the comments here b) direct message/comment on twitter @esc_essence, facebook @escessence or instagram @escessence c) email me at escessence@gmail.com
What can you expect?
I will upload what I can to the site in one post (or a series of linked posts) with reference to the original sources, to make finding ESC split results easier. I may well have to leave many a blank here and there, but let’s preserve what we still can!
Want to help further? Why not share “the hunt” on social media!
