A little bit later in the week… but we are back with your latest weekly update!
Of course off-season has barely begun and the infamous ‘Post-Eurovision Depression (PED)’ is being felt by many of us. But despite being quieter, the world of Eurovision never quite stops and Eurovision stars are as busy as ever. Iceland’s Daði, Ukraine’s Go_A and Italy’s Måneskin to name a few have all been active post-Eurovision preparing tours and merchandise for fans to enjoy! If you are particularly keen in another Eurovision artist, the best thing to do is search them up on social media – as many have things going on! And whilst the 2021 artists are busy with their future preparations, stars of past Eurovisions continue to release new music, we reacted to some of them here, and you can find a playlist of all these songs on the ESC Essence YouTube channel.
Speculation for next year’s participants has truly begun now. Recently it feels like we have had every celebrity both big and small in the UK through their name in the hat as potential ESC candidates from Bill Bailey to the Frock Destroyers, Jayde Adams to Gemma Collins the BBC has many options to draw from for 2022 (though some may be more appealing to fans than others). An official petition to the UK Government to send Muse to Eurovision 2022 was also created – although obviously rejected by the petitions committee.
The Netherlands also received seemingly increased interest from artists following their televote ‘nil points’, although fan-contest veteran and ESC 2021 interval act Davina Michelle has confirmed she won’t be submitting an entry for ESC 2022. The ‘dream team’ (as they have come to be known) of Philipp Kirkorov, Dimitris Kontopoulos and associates; announced they were working on Russia’s entry for the next contest already. This follows their successful result with singer Natalia Gordienko, achieving a coveted left hand side finish in the final once again for Moldova.
As countries delve into their plans for the next edition of the song contest, we will be sure to keep you updated here.
The final significant event from the week I want to bring up is that Måneskin are having continued commercial success around the world. Both their winning song Zitti E Buoni and an English language single I Wanna Be Your Slave made the Official UK top 40 – a feat unheard of for a modern day Eurovision winner. They also find themselves safely charting on too many European charts to go into in detail including domestically in Italy where they hold the number 2 spot on both the Album (for Teatro D’Ira – Vol. I) and Singles charts (with Zitti E Buoni) of the Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana. and gaining exposure on the ‘Next Big Sound’ chart run by Billboard in the USA. Duncan Laurence’s 2019 winning single Arcade remains on the Billboard top 100 singles.
Keep on showing support to all your Eurovision favourites! It’s a great time to be a Eurovision fan.
And as always – for even more follow our YouTube channel and social media pages! If you want to start a discussion or comment, feel free – I for one love talking Eurovision. And thanks for reading 🙂 Until next time… over and out.
