Siegel’s ‘Dream’ Musical Flies Into theatres

After a long career at Eurovision, spanning from 1974 all the way to 2017, Ralph Siegel has become a familiar name to appear in the credits of Eurovision songs as either a composer or lyricist. I think it is also quite fair to say that in that time he has managed to achieve a whole ride of Eurovision highs and lows, from winning for his native Germany in 1982 with the song Ein Bißchen Frieden to getting merely one point in 2017 with the song Spirit of the Night. Submitting songs that went on to go to Eurovision for all of Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Montenegro and San Marino is no mean feat, let alone the number of songs he has sent for some of these nations. Not even Kirkorov’s ‘dream team’ match the number of entries he has sent, twenty-four.

And yet we haven’t seen him since 2017. Is he finished with Eurovision? Well only time will tell but in the meantime, you read it right – we are getting a musical! That’s right the Theater composer will be taking on the Theatres!

The musical’s text is written by German novelist Hans Dieter Schreeb and tells about early German air travel and the Hindenburg disaster. Siegel meanwhile is credited on the music for the show (as one would probably expect) which is set to be performed in Neuschwanstein’s festival theatre from 16th October – tickets available here. This beautifully designed lakeside theatre was constructed on an artificial peninsula near the Alps and the allure of the venue seems to have been an important factor to Siegel.

“Das Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein hat mich sofort begeistert, die außergewöhnliche Bühne, die Architektur, die einzigartige Lage”

After delays from the Coronavirus pandemic, I’m pretty sure Siegel and the team will be delighted to finally put on this show but is it something you would be interested in? Well to help you decide you can listen to Ralph himself sing one of the show’s songs Ich Hab Gelebt (I have lived) on Spotify now!
